What is the age range of the children you work with?
We work with children of all ages, from 16 months to age 16. As parents, we're all interested in our children's path of development. We're thrilled when babies take their first steps, overjoyed when they pick up their own bottles, and ecstatic over first words. Just as important as the 'firsts' for our children are the 'seconds' and 'thirds' and so on.
What is involved in a speech and language evaluation?
Clearly Speaking provides a comprehensive assessment of your child's current speech/language abilities. At Clearly Speaking, we perform a comprehensive evaluation which generally includes one or more standardized tests, speech samples, and an oral mechanism exam. The goal of these tests is to quantitatively measure your child's speech and language skills. The results of the evaluation are then mailed to your family within two weeks of the date of service.
Will insurance cover speech therapy?
Many of the major insurance plans cover speech and language therapy. Clearly Speaking is a provider for Blue Cross/Blue Shield, Harvard Pilgrim Health Care, Cigna, Aetna, and NH Healthy Kids. We'd suggest that you call the member services department of your insurance plan to determine your child's eligibility.
Your benefits are related to your specific insurance plan. You may have a deductible or copay, need an authorization or referral or have a total visit limit. If you are unsure of what your benefits are, we urge you to ask a representative from your insurance plan these questions. Every insurance plan is different. It is important for all families to call their insurance plan and request speech therapy benefits. As a health care provider we have found one of the best questions to ask your insurance representative is, "Are there any exclusions to speech therapy?". Most insurances will not state exclusions to speech therapy coverage unless directly asked.
Other questions to ask would be: "Is there a deductible/copay, authorization/referral or visit limit." We are happy to assist with any insurance questions you have and can call insurance to confirm the information you receive.
Can I sit in the room while my child receives speech and language therapy?
Absolutely! Our goal at Clearly Speaking is not only to educate the child, but to assist parents in facilitating speech and language at home. Our clinicians will demonstrate techniques to be used at home, as well as provide families with home programs which will maximize your child's response to treatment.
How do you measure progress?
Measurable goals are defined for each student. Goals are reviewed regularly, and progress reports are provided to parents approximately every 3 to 6 months.
